Update: August 29, 2018
Nickersons August 2018
Nickerson’s Campground 2018
On August 24th-26th the Tri City Sam’s group enjoyed an outing at the Nickerson’s Campground in Gilboa NY. The following members participated in the outing: Larry, Larry and their son Matt, Chuck and Janet, Brian and Mary, and Rich and Wendy. Kirk and Joyce drove down to enjoy the festivities on Saturday.
Everyone rolled in at various times on Friday afternoon and into the evening. Friday saw several members going out to eat in the evening in Grand Gorge while the rest stayed back and cooked out. Brian was the fire starter that night much to One Match Larry’s dismay (took Brian 4 matches). Everyone enjoyed the camp fire for the evening.
Saturday was a bright and warm day. The group got together for breakfast and then everyone went for a hike. Larry tried out his new folding electric bike to make sure that it worked on the hills. You can see it in the pictures. Chuck, Brian and Larry set up the tent that was used at the wine auction. Everyone donated wine and joined in the festivities. The goodies provided by everyone were delicious especially the bourbon balls and pineapple soaked in coconut rum. Wendy and Rich drove into Cobleskill for miniature golf. Larry Mack went home with quite a few bottles of wine to enjoy. Kirk and Joyce joined us just as the wine auction got started and stayed for the group dinner which was followed by the meeting and the ice cream social. The evening was ended by a fantastic fireworks display. One Match Larry hurried back on his electric bike to make sure that the campfire was roaring when we got back up to the sites.
On Sunday morning the group enjoyed a group pancake breakfast before everyone got ready to head home. A great time was had by all.

Meeting
Tri City Sams August 25, 2018 Meeting Minutes
Place: Nickerson Campground
Attendance: Kirk and Joyce, Rich and Wendy, Larry and Larry, Chuck and Janet, Brian and Mary
Brian called the meeting to order at 6:30pm
Brian asked that everyone start thinking about next year’s campout schedule, we want to know what the group wants to do. It was suggested that since we have money sitting in the checking account that at the first trip in the spring and one of the fall trips the evening meal be provided for the group from the money in the treasury. The thought was that by providing the evening meal we could increase the attendance at the campouts.. This was well accepted by all in attendance.
We are going to put the State Rallys on the schedule along with the yacht club cookouts and then work the campground outings around them. It was suggested that individual members assume the responsibility for setting up one campout.
Kirk and Joyce volunteered to set up Able Mountain Pig roast in August 2019. He thinks that he can get 6 sites and if we go over that number he can work with the campground to arrange for all of us to be placed together.
Brian and Mary are going to work on October 2019 with an outing near or at Letchworth SP on Columbus Day weekend.
Chuck and Janet are going to work on an outing for May 2019.
Wendy and Rich will continue with setting up Nickerson Campground for the weekend prior to Labor Day in 2019 along with representing the club at the NYS Rally in Herkimer on the 2nd weekend on July.
Several members expressed interest in going to the Fingerlakes Region so Wendy and Rich are going to investigate that possibility.
We will have another meeting at the yacht club campout in September to continue this discussion with other members present. This is all tentative until the next meeting.
If you have any ideas or wish to set up a campout please let us know.
Meeting adjourned at 7:15pm
Minutes respectfully submitted by Mary T Hogan

New York Good Sam Rally was lite again this year. Only seventy-one units.
Tri City had three units.
Theme this year was Wild Wild West. I was right at home, being a Westerner.
The Movie Thursday night was "McClintock", staring John Wayne and Maureen O'Hara. A great western classic.
Tri City was awarded second place for our booth design. Thanks to Wendy with her balloon art.
Next year's theme for the rally will be decided at the fall rally. Choices will be between, Cartoon characters, Flintstones and Halloween. We are to make our choice and vote in the fall. September 21, 22, 23, 2018.
All are welcome. This is not just for presidents. There will be applications on the NYS web site, closer to the date.

RCYC
On June 8th – June 10th the Tri City Sam’s group enjoyed an outing at the Ravena Coeyman Yacht Club’s annual Steak roast. The following members participated in the outing: Larry and Larry, Elaine and George, Judy , Chuck and Janet, Darlene, Brian and Mary, and Marty and Joan. Judy’s son Jim, her daughter-in-law Katie and granddaughter Ava also joined us for the weekend. I think Ava had the best time of all of us. Kirk and Joyce drove down to enjoy the festivities on Friday .
On Friday morning Marty had the auspicious duty of making sure that the RV units in the group got parked and hooked up to the electric. I believe that the total number of RV units at the roast was approximately 38. Once parked everyone took time out to visit and catch up with everyone. Friday night activities included a delicious spaghetti dinner followed by ice cream, 50-50 raffle, great music with a DJ and a few large campfires down by the water. Everyone sat around the fire and enjoyed the music.
Saturday morning activities started with a breakfast followed by duck races, horseshoes, hikes, a Chinese auction, raffle tickets, face painting, door prize drawings all day , fishing contest for the kids and a petting zoo. Saturday’s night steak and lobster dinner ( a whole lobster!) was fantastic and was finished off with a dessert table with the desserts provided by the club’s members. There was no way that anyone could go away hungry. “One Match Larry” started a roaring campfire for the evening while the door prize tickets were drawn. Check out his picture on the Photo Gallery. The evening’s entertainment was a live band “Guilty Pleasures” and they provided great music well into the late hours of the night for everyone . They worked very hard at getting the people up and dancing.
Sunday morning again started with a delicious full breakfast for everyone to enjoy before pulling up stakes and heading out home. Many thanks to Marty and Joan for organizing this outing for the group and to the members of the yacht club all of whom were very friendly and welcoming. The hospitality from the club was outstanding and it didn’t hurt that many of them are great cooks! We look forward to another outing with the yacht club in the Fall with their chicken roast.
Thanks again Marty and Joan for sharing a great time with us!

Glimmer Glass State Park
On Tuesday May 15th Marty, Joan, Chuck, Janet, Brian and Mary met for a campout at Glimmerglass State Park on
Otsego Lake near Cooperstown. Since Tuesday was a little rainy the group enjoyed a visit to the Fly Creek Market to shop for some unique food items. Shopping was followed by a group pork dinner hosted by Marty and Joan followed by a roaring campfire.
Wednesday May 16th saw bright and sunny skies so Joan, Chuck, Brian and Mary enjoyed a kayaking trip along the shoreline of Otsego Lake and it's tributaries. Later that day we were joined by Judy and her family and also had a surprise visit from Kirk and Joyce. Everyone enjoyed a pasta diner hosted by Mary and Brian. Wood for that evening''s fire was supplemented by the scavenging efforts of Joan, Janet and Mary. Joan was named top scavenger for that evening.
Thursday again brought clear and sunny skies. Even though Chuck and Janet had to check out they stayed to join us for a visit to the Farmers Museum. One of the hi-lights of the visit was the carousel ride that transported everyone back to their childhood. The museum visit was followed by an ice cream run in Cooperstown before bidding farewell to Chuck and Janet. That evening, after a group dinner we enjoyed one last roaring campfire.
Friday AM we bid farewell to Judy and headed home. We found Glimmerglass State Park to be clean, spacious and very accommodating and would go again. A good time was had by all.

Country Aire campground.
Country Aire Campground - Columbus Day weekend.
We tried something new this fall.
Janet and I got to the campground Friday, had time to walk around and check out the grounds.
The campground makes fresh each morning; cinnamon rolls and donuts; pumpkin, cider, apple and maple.
Shelburne Falls, MA has a lot to offer; Bridge of Flowers, The Trolley Museum in Buckland, MA, family farm corn maze in Charlemont, MA with petting zoo and Gault’s pancake house. The Goult’s make their own maple syrup and sausage. Plus they sell farm fresh vegetables. Pancakes were wonderful.
Saturday, after Edd and Linda arrived, we all made a trip to the Hoosac Tunnel. A 4.75 mile RR tunnel that connects Charlemont with North Adams, MA. Allowing RR travel from Boston to Up State New York.
The Hoosac Tunnel project started drilling in 1851. “1875 first work train runs February 9th. First freight train runs April 5th. First passenger train runs October 13th.”
Enjoy your winter.
Until next time.

King Phillips Campground Lake George NY September 2017
We had fantastic September weather for our outing in Lake George this year. We had six units of Tri City Sam in attendance, including Chuck & Janet, Marty & Joan, Evelyn, Darlene, Joe & Sophia and Brian & Mary.
On Saturday some of the group took a ride to the Outlets for shopping, Joe and Sophia walked down to the Outlets (kudos to them!) while Brian and Mary biked down the bike trail into the village to enjoy the boat show and the water front. We will keep quiet on what Marty and Chuck were up to, what happens in Lake George stays in Lake George.
We enjoyed a delicious potluck dinner on Friday night along with 2 potluck breakfasts. On Saturday night, after a lively game of washers, we moseyed down to the Wild West Restaurant for an excellent Rib dinner. We were joined by one former member, Toni, and she brought along Jan for a great reunion. A fun time was had by all. There was a western style wedding reception at the restaurant so we enjoyed great music throughout the entire meal.
On Sunday some left for home while Darlene, Joe and Sophia stayed for the additional night. Joe and Sophia went off kayaking.
A highlight in Lake George this weekend was the 24-foot-long canoe sculpture by Paul Stark depicting five American Indians paddling a canoe with colonial frontiersman and British soldier Robert Rogers. Everyone took a special trip down to see the carving. It was not something that you would want to miss.
It was officially unveiled Thursday during a brief ceremony at the site near the dock in front of Fort William Henry. About $80,000 was collected in donations to pay for the sculpture. Stark began the project in late May and completed it in late August. It has such intricate detail, it looks like it could float on Lake George instead of just sitting there overlooking the lake.

New Hampshire State Rally, 2017, Lexington, NH
This years rally was at a new venue. It was held in Lexington fairgrounds, with full hookups.
Lexington is located north of Franconia Notch, a beautiful area in the White Mountains, with lots of things to see and do.
Tri City members at the rally were; Chuck, Janet, Rich and Wendy.
There were 121 units there with 13 from NY. A good showing for the change of venue.
Free spaghetti dinner on Thursday night, breakfast Saturday and pig roast Saturday night with all the beautiful.
Saturday's nights' entertainment was excellent. He did many of the country classics.
Tri City got there Monday and spent a few days sightseeing. "Clark's Bears", "The Basin", the gondola up Cannon Mountain, beautiful view of the area from the summit. Cog Railway up Mount Washington, highest mountain in the East. The library in Derby Line, VT. that straddles the Canadian border. A story all of it's own.
We had a rare sighting of a MOOSE in our travels.
Until next time. Safe camping.

Able Mountain 2017
Our outing at Able Mountain, was very enjoyable. We had four units, of Tri City Sams, in attendance, including Brian, Chuck, Janet, Joyce, Judy, Kirk and Mary.
Some of our units were park right on the little river. Although rafting was advertised as a plus for the campground. The water was too low, when we were there.
The ladies took time on Saturday to attend a local flea market and several yard sales. Returning with several treasures.
Our big "Field Trip" was in Brian's unit, so we could ride together. We drove thru the historical Hope Cemetery. What amazing headstones are there. Then we visited "Rock of Ages" granite quarry. The tour was very interesting and we each brought home a small piece of white granite as a souvenir.
A big highlight was the pig roast at the campground. Everyone brought a pot luck dish, and two porkers were on the spit. Two seatings. About 80 at the first seating that we were at. It was delicious.
Until next time.

New York State 2017 Rally
July 2017, New York State Good Sam Rally, held at Herkimer Fair Grounds was lightly attended again this year.
There were ten members in six units from Tri City Sams. Chuck, Darlene, Edd, Ev, Janet, Joan, Linda, Marty, Rich and Wendy.
Darlene came with the three Bears.
Rich was asked and took over breakfast hospitality. Rich did an excellent job. There was never a doubt.
Edd and Marty helped with donuts.
Wendy did her balloon magic for the Tri City booth.
Tri City won first place booth again this year. Wendy’s magic.
Dinner Saturday was in Frankfort, at the Knight Spot.
Tri City’s fund raiser was raffling off one hundred dollars of Lotto tickets. Profits were lite. Probably not worth our time.
Rain, down pours, on and off most of the weekend. Cleared up to drive home.
Until next time.
